Finally someone that is full of energy, fun and drive. Mac is relatively unknown, hailing from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania the 17-18 year old teen is causing a mellow wave to rise somewhere in the hip-hop world. He raps about everyday things like smoking and drinking (things he seems to do allot of) relatable situations to most of the world, so does that equal global appeal? I feel it does, on this track he moves slowly through a story about living free-as the title suggests, the video is perfect-simplicity rules here- seeing his boyish face against the gloomy backdrop of New York is fun, and you cannot help but want to continue on the journey with him.
Many have tried and made it, for a more recent example we look to Asher Roth, a white rapper also from Philli, comparisons are abound, that is just how the industry is. But I feel we can safely say both are different, how they are though is rather difficult to describe, you just develop specific musical feeling towards both. Mac has the ever-so slight edge of youth on his side all he needs is an 'I love college' style hit to thrust him into the limelight. That success could make or break his career, I don't know you Mac Miller but your music is unique, a bold statement some might say, you may want to make it big? You may want to just write music as it is what you enjoy? Either way keep doing what you’re doing.
He has a mixtape out 'the high life' which is a slice of fun to listen to.
Mac is one to watch.
5/5 Stars.
